The past days have seen reports and op-eds published in the Romanian press and other public fora which make serious allegations about the research being conducted at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. These allegations suggest that the HAS-Momentum “Trianon 100” research group engages in covert government propaganda, seeks to undermine the Romanian state and supports separatist tendencies.
„In actuality, the research group formed by 22 contributors, which operates within the Institute of History, a part of the Research Centre for Humanities of HAS is not affiliated with the government. It is an academic undertaking with corresponding goals and operates transparently in the public eye. Its aims include inviting Romanian, Slovakian and Serbian, as well as Western European researchers to join in the multidisciplinary undertaking”, said Balázs Ablonczy, historian and project leader for the HAS Momentum Trianon 100 research group, in a statement given to mta.hu.
The academic added that the group has so far organized workshops and conferences, coordinated archival research, and it is preparing both collections of historical source material and original monographs for publications. The first is due out in May 2017, presenting the diary of the Hungarian peace delegation from 1920, complete with historical commentary, abundant photos and graphics, as well as explanatory footnotes.
The workings and the achievements of the research group are accessible for all both in English and Hungarian by visiting the webpage http://www.trianon100.hu/ or following its Facebook profile at https://www.facebook.com/Trianon100/.
